New details in Gosnells drive by shooting: seven inside home, rifle still missing

New details have emerged about the alleged drive by shooting at a Gosnells home, with police confirming that seven people, including children, were inside the property when gunfire erupted in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 13 year old boy, who was reportedly already on bail for separate alleged offences in Victoria, has been charged with eight offences following the shooting on Bert Street about 12.40am on 17 October 2026.

Initial reports indicated three people were inside the house and nobody was injured. However, WA Police have since confirmed that seven people were present and one adult man suffered minor injuries from shattered glass, requiring hospital treatment.

Semi automatic rifle still missing

Police allege the teenager used a semi automatic carbine rifle to fire at the occupied residence.

CCTV footage obtained by ABC News appears to capture the sound of 27 gunshots.

Bullets struck the property's exterior, damaging a bedroom window, brickwork and guttering.

Acting Senior Sergeant Heath Atkinson confirmed on Monday that police had not recovered the firearm allegedly used in the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Teenager already on bail in Victoria

Further details emerged during the teenager's appearance before Perth Children's Court on Monday, 19 October 2026.

According to ABC News, the court heard that the boy was already on bail for unrelated alleged offences in Victoria, his home state.

The teenager did not apply for bail during the brief hearing.

Prosecutors indicated they would oppose any subsequent application.

He faces eight charges, including unlawful use of a firearm, endangering life, possession of stolen property and driving without authority.

He is expected to return to court next week.

Questions remain about access to the firearm

The case raises serious questions about how a 13 year old allegedly obtained access to a semi automatic firearm.

Police have not publicly established where the firearm came from, who owned it, or how the teenager allegedly obtained it.

Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident and said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

However, the firearm's reported whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident remain under investigation.
