EMERGENCY LIGHTS & SIREN INVOLVED IN WANNEROO CRASH WAS NOT POLICE

Police say a white Ford Everest showing red and blue emergency lights and sounding a siren in a Wanneroo crash was not an authorised emergency vehicle.

EMERGENCY LIGHTS & SIREN INVOLVED IN WANNEROO CRASH WAS NOT POLICE

A Ford Everest reportedly displaying red and blue emergency lights and sounding a siren was involved in a Wanneroo collision on Sunday.

Police confirmed the vehicle was not authorised for emergency services use.

The white Everest and a silver Mercedes Benz collided on Franklin Road about 12.35pm on 4 October.

Both male drivers sustained non life threatening injuries. The Everest driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and the Mercedes driver to Joondalup Health Campus.

Major Crash officers are investigating. The police statement announced no charges.

WA transport rules restrict the fitting and use of emergency warning equipment. Sirens require legislative permission or departmental approval, while authorisation to display flashing warning lights does not automatically grant emergency vehicle status.

Even approved emergency vehicle drivers must take reasonable care for the safety of others.

The Road Safety Commission advises motorists making way for emergency vehicles to remain calm and move left safely. Drivers should not speed or run red lights to clear a path.
